Two-Factor Authentication (2FA), also known as Two-Step Verification, adds an important extra layer of security to your Afriweb client account. In addition to your password, you'll need a time-based code from an authenticator app on your phone. This makes it much harder for unauthorized users to access your account, even if your password is compromised.
Afriweb uses Google Authenticator (or any compatible TOTP app) for 2FA in the client area.
Step-by-Step Guide to Enable 2FA
- Log in to your Afriweb Client Area Go to the Afriweb client login page (accessible via https://afriweb.co.za/login or the "Client Login"/"Portal" link on the homepage). Enter your registered email address and password to log in.
- Access Security Settings Once logged in, look for your profile or account menu (in the top-right corner, under your name or avatar). Select the drop-down and then select Security Settings. Find the Two-Factor Authentication section. Click Click here to Enable, Enable 2FA, Activate, or a similar button.
- Set up the Authenticator App The system will display a QR code and possibly a manual secret key (a string of letters/numbers).
- Open your authenticator app on your phone.
- Choose to add a new account/scan a QR code.
- Scan the QR code shown on the screen (or manually enter the secret key if scanning isn't possible).
- The app will now start generating 6-digit codes that refresh every 30 seconds.
- Verify and Confirm Enter the current 6-digit code from your authenticator app into the verification field on the website. Click Verify, Confirm, or Complete Setup. If the code is correct, 2FA will be activated immediately.
- Save Your Backup/Recovery Codes (Important!) The system may show one-time backup codes (usually 8–10 codes). Download/print/save these securely (e.g., in a password manager or offline). Use a backup code if you ever lose access to your phone/app. Do not store them on your phone or in email.
What Happens Next?
- Every future login will require:
- Your password
- A fresh 6-digit code from your authenticator app
- Codes are time-sensitive — enter them quickly.
Troubleshooting Tips
- Code doesn't work? Ensure your phone's time/date is set to automatic (sync with network time). Incorrect time is the most common issue.
- Lost your phone or app? Use one of your saved backup codes to log in, then disable/re-enable 2FA to set it up again (or contact support immediately).
- Want to disable 2FA? Go back to the Security Settings section and choose the disable option (you'll usually need to verify with a current code).
- If you encounter any errors or can't find the option, submit a support ticket from the client area or email support@afriweb.co.za.
